Asking the right questions to get a great story
Here’s an article I just wrote for the upcoming Canadian Society for Social Development newsletter. They are a great organization that supports entrepreneurs with disabilities – and other people, too!
I recently did a project with a granting organization, to write stories about twenty of their grantees. The project was great fun – and I learned a couple of things about writing stories that hadn’t been entirely clear to me before I sat down to write twenty in a row! I’d like to share one of the things I learned.
First, I am going to make some assumption about you, the reader. I am assuming that a) you do work in the world that you want others to know about, b) you have decided to use storytelling as a way to communicate about your good work, and c) you have identified one individual who has been directly – and positively! – impacted by the work you do, but you don’t know how to get the best story out of that person.
